Extreme Makeover Home Edition

The McFarland's lives have been Extremely changed forever.

We teamed up with ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to unveil
a new home for the McFarland family and made a donation of
approximately $30,000 worth of photography pieces in efforts to help
make their new house a home. This episode will air on May 17th on ABC.
This opportunity was so amazing - the look and emotion on Bernard and
his three boys face when they say their new home was something I'll never forget.

ABC chose Bernard McFarland because he learned the power of books
and the weight of words at an early age. Though raised in an impoverished
family, Bernard McFarland overcame his obstacles with his thirst for
knowledge and graduated from college. He then joined the military, and after-
wards returned to his hometown with his three sons. In a community where
violence was on the rise and kids were dropping out of school, Bernard
set out on a mission to change those statistics and redirect the minds of the
children in his hometown with “Pack House 2000,” a program dedicated
to helping exercise the minds and expanding the dreams of these young-
sters by forming reading groups and organizing field trips to libraries, museums
and cultural events throughout the city despite Bernard having few resources.
As Bernard leads these efforts to help children realize their full potential, the
McFarland home has deteriorated to an unsafe dwelling where his three boys,
Courtney, Curtis, and Dominique share one room. There are holes throughout
the ceiling, walls and floors, water damage in the sub-flooring and rusting
pipes, plumbing, corroded wiring and crumbling drywall. Now Ty, his designers,
The Estridge Companies and the Indianapolis community will fulfill the wish
of this inspiring father and his family who has helped so many capture their
dreams of a greater education and better life.

Their inspiration is what drove us to capture and create images in what turned
out to be one of the most difficult shooting conditions we have ever faced.
The process was so different than what we imagined - seeing what goes into
making a TV show is really mind blowing. We waited for approximately seven
hours before we were given 60 seconds with the whole family. I had chosen a
on the brick wall of the old house i just pulled them together and let my instincts
take over. I just held down the shutter and prayed, I didn't even look at the back
of the camera! During those seven hours, we had small increments of time with
various family members. The conditions were less than ideal and continued to
change as the day progressed. Everything from rain and wind to over head direct
sun. While the actual backdrop was not the location we would have chosen for a
once in a lifetime opportunity. It was the most challenging situation to photograph in,
and thankfully, due to our years of experience shooting weddings with less than
desirable lighting and backdrops, we have learned to find the opportunities.
We were also told to bring only camera and lenses. No external lighting.
All we had was one scrim and a reflector. This was such a wonderful experience for
Michelle and I. First, to be given the opportunity to give back to a family that has
done so much for teens in need, and second to be so challenged as artists to pull
from deep within our creativity and try to produce something special in the shooting
and lighting conditions we were given - we are just so grateful to ABC.
We hope the McFarland family enjoys the art created from their incredible
family for years to come.

2009 Prom Events

Can you believe its almost time for prom? The Prom Events
at Richardson Studio are some of our favorite studio events.

What is the Prom Event?
An opportunity to have some amazing RS images on your prom
night at a great low price.

How Does it Work?
The sessions take place on your prom night at our studio in Bloomington.
Appointments are available every 5 minutes. When you arrive you will go
immediately to the camera room, we will shoot several different shots, some
cool close ups and full length shots, then some fun crazy dancing or whatever
pics. Right after the shoot you will stop by our viewing room to see the images,
pick out a package to get your favorites, stop up front to pay and your good to
go. You will be able to take a proof sheet of the images you ordered with you.

Ladies Night Out

WOW!
Our 2nd annual Ladies Night Out here at Richardson Studio was Amazing!
We had over 100 ladies come out for the event. Dr. Lisa Jerrells did a live
botox demonstration, Brandy had really cool sunglasses. Kathy was giving
excellent skin care advice & Trish gave some great make up tips.
We had fantastic food provided by Finch's, then we capped off the evening
with a fashion show and some shopping with Jenn and Brooke.

Woo Hoo!

Just want to give a shout out to Michelle Richardson! She nabbed another award
from this year's SPA event in Las Vegas. She placed in the top ten nationally for
Senior Girl Portraits. Way to go Michelle! We are very proud of you!
